A Space to Play {Creating a Baby Playspace}

Hi! I'm Ashlee from Loving Naturally and I'm thrilled to be guest posting on Squiggles and Bubbles today. Through the year of 2017, each month myself and a group of other blogger mummies will be coming together to take you into our families and show you a little into our world covering a different topic each month to give you an ever expanding knowledge of ways to engage your little squish helping them develop and explore safely. This month we are sharing our playspaces.

Creating a functional and engaging play space can be hard and overwhelming and sometimes just ends in clutter. In our little home, we aim for minimal yet stimulating. We have 2 main play areas that we rotate toys in, which keeps both girls playing and learning for hours.

For Miss L, her outdoor space has a little veggie garden and a fairy garden where she explores her imagination coming up with stories for her toy animals and fairies while also learning the responsibility of looking after her plants for them to grow and produce food for her to eat.

Where as Little A has various wooden toys to engage her hand-eye coordination as well as cause and effect.With a large mirror placed to help brighten and bring more life to the area, both girls enjoy watching themselves dance and play and exploring their own reflection and movements of their toys.

Our outdoor play space is everyone's favourite, allowing us no matter the weather Melbourne brings we are still able to safely play and enjoy being outdoors.The area is a 4m x 2m decked space with roofing and shade cloth walls allowing heaps of air flow and sunshine without the harmful UV rays. (Please note whenever outside SLIP SLOP SLAP SLIDE is always encouraged even when in the shade.)

Indoors we have another minimal play space for both girls with Little A having a rainbow themed area, this area is bright colourful and full of stimulation without being overwhelming. Little A LOVES her music and having a little dance so we have added musical toys as well as more stacking and shape placing toys to bring that beautiful brain into action.

Miss L is one for imagination loving creating towns and kingdoms for her little characters, along with Miss L's imaginative play, we allow selective learning. At the moment Miss L is showing huge interest in playing musical instruments so we are putting together a Milo tin drum kit along with a cup xylophone while also receiving a guitar for Christmas for her to expand her learning and creativity.

We try to encourage reusing of household items and upcycling whenever possible to show you can find fun in every situation.

I can't wait to see all your playspaces on Instagram!

Thanks so much, Victoria, for the opportunity to share. I hope that you will all visit me over at Loving Naturally soon!

Playful Baby Giveaway

Each month as well as equipping you with some fantastic, playful baby ideas we will also be giving away one fabulous Grimm's Spiel & Holz Wooden Toy!

Grimm’s Spiel & Holz have been making unique and distinctive natural wooden toys since 1978. Inspired by the educational philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, Spiel & Holz toys leave room for independent and open-ended play, allowing for the child’s own imaginative and creative life to be developed. Spiel & Holz toys have no sharp edges or corners as all the toys are individually sanded by hand. Each toy is hand-finished with special non-toxic and water-based dyes providing distinctive colours and shades, and then treated with pure vegetable oil.

  1. As a mother of two girls aged 2 & 5, I know all too well about the value of a quality and functional play area. We have just finished renovating our front lounge room to allow their toy room to expand. We found that in their old, cramped and uninviting it became harder to get them to get creative with their toys. They now have a bright, colourful and inspiring room and we struggle to get them out of it! Thanks for sharing.
