Coloured Salt on the Light Table

Have you ever played with coloured salt on a light table? As I mentioned in our Rainbow Rice on the Light Table post, recently Numnut was sweet enough to create Bubbles and Squiggles an awesome light table from what I would have called junk. Bubbles and I are both in love with the light table and seeing how much fun she had with the rainbow rice and the way in which she was attempting to create shapes in the rice I decided to give her a tray of coloured salt to play with.

To invite Bubbles to play with the light table I simply placed a clear tub full of coloured salt onto the light table and added some foam letters and numbers, some silicone star shaped egg rings and a couple of paint brushes.
Bubbles was really excited when she saw the invitation to play and immediately began drawing her ‘special’ letter-B. She then took great delight in using the egg rings and foam cut outs to make impressions in the salt.
She especially loved making impressions with the foam cut outs and then tracing around them with the paint brush-declaring “I made a 7,9 and 8 Mummy!”

Have you got a light table at home? What’s your favourite way to play with it?

Please always supervise your infant/child at play.  Please stay within arms reach and never leave infants/children unattended.  You know you're infant/child best, use your own judgement-considering your infant/child's temperament, habits, behaviour and development before you play with a new play medium.
